Our Veterinarians

Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, and care deeply about what we do every day.

Dr. Kimberly Carlson

DVM, DACVS

Dr. Carlson is originally from Plano, IL. She grew up with her adoptive family (including a younger brother) while learning the value of hard work. She hasn’t slowed down since she started working full time at 16, graduating early and heading to Chicago to spend the next seven years in stock trading. Her path to becoming a veterinarian may have been a little untraditional, but she became determined to shift her focus in life to helping animals when they need it most.

After graduating with her DVM in 2001 from the University of Illinois, Dr. Carlson went on to complete her general internship at the Animal Medical Center of New York, her surgical internship at the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center and her surgical residency at Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She finally made her way to beautiful Northern California, working at Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital as well as PETS Referral Center for five years before spending the next eight at the VCA Bay Area Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Hospital.

Dr. Carlson has finally made her dream to start her own practice a reality with Lenity. She’s able to offer her considerable experience and skills to pets that need it most here in the Bay Area. In this time of corporations buying up many of the general and specialty veterinary practices, Dr. Carlson joins a small group of specialists committed to maintaining private ownership.

Her goals are to maintain a very sophisticated level of client service and patient care that can truly only be accomplished in a smaller, hands-on, privately owned setting with direct owner involvement.

Dr. Kristine Chan

DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology), FAHA

Originally from New York, Dr. Kristine Chan earned her bachelor’s degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University. Following graduation, she completed an internship at the Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, MA, then a Cardiology Residency at the California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, where she achieved board certification in 2009. She subsequently joined Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Heart Institute as a post-doctoral fellow for further cardiac training.

After her training, she thought she would move back home, but met her husband who was born and bred in San Francisco so she is here to stay in the Bay! In her free time, she enjoys reading, walking, yoga, and cuddling with their rescue cat Teddy, their new rescue feral Eleanor (“Ellie”) who adopted them, and Kali, their spoiled bearded dragon.

Dr. Chan is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, an Affiliate member of the American College of Cardiology, and a California Medical Reserve Corps disaster relief volunteer. She is also a volunteer for Hope Horizon East Palo.

Dr. Kayla Caturay

DVM, Residency Trained in Surgery

Dr. Kayla Caturay is originally from the beautiful city of San Francisco and joins our team with a strong foundation in small animal surgery and a deep passion for advancing veterinary care. Dr. Caturay has a special interest in orthopedics, including minimally invasive techniques and joint replacement. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Science at the University of California, Davis. Her dedication to learning and service has taken her across the country through rigorous internships and residency programs, most recently at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital. Dr. Caturay has also been actively involved in international veterinary organizations, fostering global collaboration and education in animal health. Outside of work, she finds joy in traveling, yoga, hiking, paddle boarding, and learning new languages—currently working toward fluency in five. Her well-rounded approach to both medicine and life brings warmth, curiosity, and expertise to every patient she treats.
